Cygnus, the leading manufacturer of fully compliant, wireless fire detection and alarm systems, has supplied its SmartNet Wireless Alarm System for installation at the Rural Life Living Museum in Farnham, Surrey as part of a major retrofit project on the site.
The Rural Life Living Museum tells the story of the countryside. Its unique collection of re-located historic buildings, agricultural implements and objects allow visitors to explore this important aspect of British history. The open-air museum is set in over 10 acres of open space and woodland and also features an arboretum containing over 100 trees.
Fire protection equipment installer, Evolution Fire & Safety, selected the EN 54 compliant SmartNet system for this project thanks to its performance and reliability. The company fitted a 16-zone SmartNet Control Panel, smoke detectors, manual call points, fire alarm call points with sounder/visual indicator, and sounder modules to allow for maximum coverage. Designed to deliver a reliable and safe solution, the SmartNet wireless network is run by battery powered radio devices as part of a robust, self-forming and self-healing mesh network, giving a minimum of two communication paths to each wireless device for maximum reliability.
By eliminating the need for cabling during installation, a SmartNet system greatly reduces engineering time and the overall project cost. It also minimises occupant disruption and reduces the cost of rewiring on retrofit projects, such as, the Rural Life Living Museum. The wireless mesh network requires no gateway expanders or loop-powered translating devices to speed up installation further.
