Cygnus has partnered with Marlowe Fire & Security to deliver a SmartNet-100 Wireless fire detection and alarm system for a brand-new children's counselling and therapy centre at Treetops Hospice in Derbyshire.
Treetops Hospice is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and – thanks to the DIY SOS Big Build team, Children in Need and BBC Radio 2 – it now has a new children’s counselling and therapy centre.
Treetops Hospice is an adult hospice in Risley, Derbyshire, dedicated to providing nursing care and emotional support for adults with life-limiting conditions, those who've been bereaved, and their loved ones. One of its services includes counselling and emotional support for children who are struggling after the death of a loved one.
At the very heart of the new centre are the children, and their parents and carers. The design has ensured the space is welcoming and puts young visitors at ease from the moment they step through its doors. The centre includes bespoke rooms for counselling and complementary therapy, and a multi-functional area.
Marlowe Fire & Security delivered the fire safety solution for the project and, in partnership with Cygnus, installed the SmartNet-100 wireless fire detection and alarm system. The 100% wireless and EN 54 certified SmartNet-100 is reliable, robust and up to twenty times faster to install than any other system. The new system at the centre was installed in one day and features 19 devices and one [16-zone] SmartNet-100 Control Panel.
Chris Johnson, Project Manager at Marlowe Fire & Security, comments, “It was truly an honour to be selected as the fire and security specialists on this worthwhile and important project. The SmartNet-100 system was ideal for this project due to its size and allowed us to work to the tight timescales before and during the install. The system is working perfectly, and the whole process was smooth and efficient. We are grateful to our valued partners at Cygnus for their collaboration.”
SmartNet is the world’s first 100% wireless, EN 54 certified and BS 5839 compliant fire detection and alarm system while the new SmartNet-100 is ideal for small to medium sized projects, where the scalability of SmartNet-Pro is not required. Cygnus was thrilled to support the project by provision of a complete SmartNet-100 system to guarantee the fire safety requirements were met.
Designed to deliver a reliable and safe solution, the SmartNet range’s wireless network features patented Cygnus technology and is run by battery powered radio devices as part of a robust, self-forming and self-healing mesh network, giving a minimum of two communication paths to each wireless device for maximum reliability.
All the components of the SmartNet-100 system are certified to the relevant parts of EN 54 – the European suite of standards for fire detection and alarm systems – and specifically EN54-25, the radio communications standard. This gives peace of mind to both installers and end users that SmartNet is a reliable, robust and resilient fire detection and alarm system.
“We were privileged to be able to support Marlowe Fire & Security with this project,” comments Sandy Damm, CEO at Cygnus. “Treetops Hospice is such an admirable organisation, and we are delighted that our SmartNet-100 system has fulfilled their fire safety requirements for this very worthwhile cause.”
